Wonder By R. J. Palacio: Summary

Wonder Book review
Wonder Book Review

Wonder by R. J. Palacio is the story of 10 years old August Pullman; who is anything but ordinary. August is born with a rare type of facial syndrome. Only one defective gene has disturbed his whole facial symmetry.

Since the time August was born, he has been through 27 surgeries which is why he has never been to school. August's mom homeschooled him in the kindergarten years but now's the time for him to go to a proper school.

August feels anxious about going to a proper school. Because no matter how much he has trained himself to ignore the shocked and mean stares of people and other kids. He still notices EVERYTHING!

This is the story of how August shows everyone around him that he is more than his face. A facial anomaly can't stop him to show the world the WONDER he is.

Wonder By R. J. Palacio: Book Review

Wonder is a beautifully crafted story about Auggie and his experiences regarding his 'not-so-ordinary' life. I think R. J. Palacio wonderfully narrated this story in such a simple yet impactful way that you can somehow feel the emotions associated with each character.

One of the key takeaways that R. J. Palacio wanted us to learn from the story of August is that we're more than how we look like. There's more to our personality than our facial features.

It takes nothing to be kind. And if you have the choice to be 'Right' or be 'kind'.

ALWAYS BE KIND.

Wonder Book Quotes

Imagine going through 27 surgeries since you were born. Being stared at by people wherever you go and the obscure faces they make. It takes so much courage to notice people staring at you while you act unbothered by all of it. But deep down You know how much it affects you.

I don't know what should I say but maybe one bad thing was that I had watched the movie based on this book already; so when I was reading the book, the whole time I had those characters in my mind when I read about them in the book. So there wasn't much I could imagine. otherwise, I LOVED THIS BOOK.

This one definitely deserves to be read and appreciated by everyone.

Give it a read and you'll find yourself laughing and crying with Auggie. At least I did.

Quotes from Wonder by R. J. Palacio

Here are some of the quotes from Wonder that I really liked.

The only reason I'm not ordinary is that no one else sees me that way.

What's cool about really little kids is that they don't say stuff to try to hurt your feelings, even though sometimes they do say stuff that hurts your feelings. But they don't actually know what they're saying.
Big kids, though: they know what they're saying.

When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.

We should be remembered for the things we do. The things we do are most important than what we say or what we look like. The things we do outlast our mortality. The things we do are like monuments the people build to honor heroes after they've died. They're like the pyramids that the Egyptians built to honor the Pharaohs. Only instead of being made out of stone, they're made out of the memories people have of you.

Funny how sometimes you worry a lot about something and it turns out to be nothing.

I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.

Wonder Book Quotes
It's so weird how you could have a night that's the worst in your life, but to everybody else, it's just an ordinary night.

Shall we make a new rule of life... to always try to be a little kinder than is necessary.? Because it's not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed. We carry with us, as human beings, not just the capacity to be kind, but the very choice of kindness.

Such a simple thing, KINDNESS. A nice word of encouragement given when needed. An act of friendship. A passing smile.
